Scoliosis Treatment
Scoliosis is a medical condition in which a person’s spine is curved from side to side, and may also be rotated. It is an abnormal lateral curvature of the spine. On an x-ray, the spine of an individual with a typical scoliosis may look more like an "S" or a "C" than a straight line. Scoliosis is a disorder that causes an abnormal curve of the spine, or backbone. It is typically classified as congenital but regardless of the cause, the treatment depends largely on the patient’s age. The rule here is, the younger the better as far as a chance to correct scoliosis. When a person is fully mature or is “done growing” it is more difficult to correct the scoliosis and a plan to keep the problem from worsening is often the answer. Regardless of what stage of life you may be in, scoliosis can cause problems in the body and typically worsens with age if left untreated.
