Sciatica Treatment
Sciatica is a common presentation of lower back problems or spinal issues. Sciatica is caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve, the largest nerve in the body. Sciatica is often described as pain beginning in the low back and radiating down the buttock, the back of the leg and sometimes all the way down to the bottom of the foot. The pain may be burning or shooting and sometimes, patients don’t describe “pain” at all but simply a hot, burning sensation in the back of the leg which isn’t normal and is irritating. That is a symptom of Sciatica and that something underlying is wrong.
When thorough and complete diagnostic tests are performed, it is possible to identify the cause of the pain. Often a bulging or herniated disc or mal-position of the lumbar or sacral spine is the cause of the problem. The most effective methods of treatment may be a combination of spinal decompression therapy, physical therapy, chiropractic treatment, massage therapy, cold light laser therapy and even acupuncture. If necessary, referrals are made for epidural steroid injections, injections or pain medication (pain killers) which may be part of the customized protocol. Southwest Spine Center has had incredible results treating sciatica combining spinal decompression therapy, chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, massage, physiotherapy, acupuncture and cold light laser.
