Back Manipulations
Chiropractic treatment involves putting motion in the spinal column using the hands or, with some techniques, with equipment. The body is smart: It has an innate ability to heal itself (imagine the body healing a cut or a bruise) enabling the nerves to work properly allows the body to function properly. If a bone is scraping, scratching or stretching a nerve, that nerve may become irritated resulting in symptoms such as pain. When an adjustment is performed, the doctor will locate and correct that malposition or subluxation, moving the bone off the nerve and alleviating the symptoms or pain.
Some patients experience relief immediately after an adjustment. Allowing the muscles to adapt to the new position of the spinal bones sometimes takes several adjustments over a few weeks. The results vary depending on the condition and the person. Specialized, customized protocols and treatment plans are the key to getting the best result for each and every patient we care for.
Southwest Spine Center has doctors that practice all types of adjustments. Some techniques involve a high force while others are very gentle. The goal is the same, to remove a subluxation (a malposition of the bone) which causes the nerves to malfunction. If the nerves aren’t communicating properly, any number of symptoms can arise including pain, numbness, tingling and weakness to name a few.
